To take the surprise out of holiday trips with your vehicle, check your fluids on a regular basis.
You should be checking your oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and transmission fluid at least once-a-week. Weather changes can surface leaks that were already waiting to happen. If you don't know how to check these fluid levels please read your owner's manual, or ask your mechanic how to do it.
If you are checking your fluids on a regular basis you can notice trends in fluid levels that will alert you to a potential problem that you can get repaired before leaving on the long awaited holiday trip.
And don't wait util the last minute before Thanksgiving before trying to schedule it in at the mechanic. He will be scheduled full of people that did just that.
