Hot weather and overheating

Remember, check your coolant levels at least once a week.

If you have a radiator and a separate reservoir, check both levels in the morning before you start your car.  The radiator should have coolant up to the cap, and the reservoir should be at the cold fill line.

If the temperature gauge starts to get close to the hot, turn off your air conditioner and see if it comes down.  If it still climbs higher turn on the heater and open all the windows.  If it still climbs higher pull over and turn off the engine.  Get help.

Do not run the engine with the gauge in the hot range.  Save your engine.

Let it cool down at least 45 minutes before adding coolant or water.
