DIY testing A/C

You can test your own air conditioning system quite easily.

Pop the hood(bonnet).  In the engine compartment you will find two pipes/hoses.  One smaller than the other one.  Both of them go to a roundish device run by the belt.

Turn on the engine and the air conditioning.  Let it run for at least one minute.  If you can, without burning yourself on the exhaust manifold or getting too close to the belt, reach down close to the roundish thing and feel the two different sized pipes coming out of it.

The larger of the two pipes should feel refrigerator cold.  The smaller of the two should be too hot to touch except for a quick tap or two.  If this is the case, and it is rather warm outside, your A/C system is charged.

There are more things to look at and to listen to.  I will talk about them later.

If you feel uncomfortable doing this, just stop by and I will show you how to do it.
