The Hesston shooting

I am sorry I have not written anything for a while.

In January the business was burglarized and that took some time to recover from, but God was gracious because the insurance money helped us upgrade some of our tools.

Also this is tax season and we have just finished and sent in our taxes.  Plus this is February.  It is a short month so I have to spend more time at the grindstone to get all the bills paid with fewer days.

Yesterday, I saw the first police vehicle race by on Old 81 Highway at about 90 miles-an-hour.  I hate it when they do that.  It is so dangerous.  I noted that the siren stopped rather abruptly and I knew it was an in-town call.  Just a few minutes later I saw the chief-of-police race by.

I didn't think anything of it until my wife called me from the day care and told me some eye witnesses came in to pick up their children and said there was a live shooting incident at Exel Industries.

I called our high school student who had just returned from doing a paper route in that area and told him to get in the basement because our house is just two blocks from Exel and they might be using rifles.

Then I went across town and picked up our middle schooler who was doing a paper route.  He had heard the shots but thought it was just factory noises.  I brought him back to the shop and we locked down and watched, for we had heard the shooter was at-large in the community.

Our son who was at home was watching the news and told us it was all clear so we decided to close the shop for the day regardless of the work load.  It was a good time to just be together as a family.

This will be a tough day today.  I am sure we will slowly find out those we know who have been injured or passed.

We are praying that their families will turn to Jesus in this crisis to find His comfort.  For no one else can comfort us from this life's trials.
