Read my owner's manual?

Yes, reading your owner's manual is the first step in prolonging the life of your car or truck.

It essentially is the your vehicle's bible.  If you depend on your mechanic to look after your vehicle's needs and to tell you when to service it, then you are like someone who depends on the priest, or pastor of a church to tell him what and when to do things or not do things.  That person should be reading their Bible for themselves and doing what it says.  So also, lots of people don't read their owner's manual and just follow other people's advise or suggestions.

If you would follow the maintenance schedule in the back of the owner's manual, you would have little trouble with your vehicle and it would last longer than most cars of that make and model.

So, just as the Bible says, "Do not be hearers of the Word, but be doers."  Not only ready your owner's manual, do what it says for maintenance.

I have several customers who diligently read their owner's manual, and do what the maintenance schedule says to do, when it says to do it.  To be honest with you, I do not make a lot of profit working on their cars because it is mostly maintenance work and not repair work.  As a result they enjoy cheaper transportation than most folks do.

Now don't get me wrong, your mechanic is, and should be, a good source of information and advise on how to care for your car or truck.  And we all know that both cars and people are not perfect so it is helpful to have a pastor, and a mechanic, when things don't go the right way.  But I cannot count the times that someone has called me on the phone about a vehicle issue, and I answer, "Have you read your owner's manual?"  And they say, "Oh, well, no, I guess I didn't."

Read your owner's manual, and read your Bible, and DO what they say to do.  Life and cars will be easier that way and both will have the chance to last longer.

Two promises I close this post with.  God promises in His Word that if you will honor your parents you will live a long life.  The manufacture of your car promises you that if you change oil on a regular basis, your car's engine will last longer than if you don't.  Do both of these regardless of how your parents treat you, and regardless if you have an ugly car.  Your life will have more peace.
