Spark plugs and very cold weather

Don't go into January without making sure your spark plugs are in good condition.

I know this sounds too simple, but poor spark plugs could mean that some zero degree day in January, your car will not start.  Fuel injection is great, and we have completely forgotten the troubles of starting a engine in January with a carburetor.  We point our remote starter devices at the car through the window and it starts and warms up without us having to trudge out there and nurse it for 5 minutes to get it to run on it's own.

However, as your spark plugs get worn over time, your computer constantly compensates for their wear.  You start your car like always and it always starts.  But then, one very cold morning in January, the vehicle's brain can no longer make up the difference for worn out spark plugs and it just will not start.

The best way to avoid this is to keep your vehicle up-to-date with it's maintenance record.  Your spark plugs will be replaced at regular intervals, and something as simple as a tune-up item will not be the reason why your car doesn't start in the cold mornings of January.
